James Day
Director - Australia and New Zealand, CDP

James is the Australia & NZ Director for CDP, an international, not-for-profit organisation which has the world’s largest natural capital disclosure system covering climate change, water and forests which represent around 80% of natural capital consumption. CDP also has one of the largest supply chain sustainability programs in the world with over 2,800 companies disclosing through its Supply Chain program to over 64 member purchasing companies, including: Walmart, Unilever, Dell and Coca Cola. James has been with CDP since 2010, and established its Australian office in 2011. He previously worked as a consultant and program manager for over 8 years - where his clients included numerous government agencies and NGOs in Australia, and Microsoft and Diageo in the UK - and in public policy advocacy at Oxfam Australia for 3 years. James holds an MBA in Strategic Carbon Management from the University of East Anglia, and a BA (Politics) from Macquarie University.


Chris Gallagher
Managing Director, Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Australasia

Chris has been with the Institute for 14 years. Over this time, he has been the director responsible for membership, professional development, international relationships, business solutions and strategy. He is currently the lead director responsible for the development of CIPS across the Asia Pacific region.  This remit encompasses the CIPS offices in Australia, China, and a new operation to open in Singapore in 2014. Before joining CIPS, Chris worked with Universities and Business Schools on the development of programs at MBA and MSc levels. His background in the Procurement & Supply Chain field was primarily developed in retail this culminated in Chris holding general management and managing director positions in retail footwear, mail order, publishing and general procurement goods and services. After completing his other professional and technical qualifications, Chris gained an MBA from the University of Sussex in 1999.


Clare Luehman
General Manager, Global Sustainability & Carbon, Incitec Pivot Ltd

Clare Luehman is Vice President Global Sustainability and Carbon for Incitec Pivot Limited, an ASX50 listed global company which manufactures, markets and distributes a range of fertilisers, industrial explosives and related chemicals. A Chartered Accountant with over twenty years finance experience in both public practice and industry, Clare combines her strategy, financial acumen and communication skills to creating and implementing the IPL sustainability and carbon strategies. Joining IPL in September 2008, Clare was charged with creating IPL’s first sustainability strategy and preparing the company for greenhouse reporting in a new role designed for her.  This role was both a first for the company and for Clare who had previously held more traditional finance roles.  Within five years the company has achieved a number of sustainability and carbon milestones and in 2012 was recognised as a leading chemical company by the Dow Jones Asia Pacific Sustainability index. Clare views sustainability through the profit/ planet /people lense.  She acknowledges that many shy away from highlighting economic sustainability but believes it is a critical part of the sustainability equation.


John Newton
General Manager Sustainability & Environment, Orora Ltd

John has over 25 years experience in managing environmental and sustainability issues as a regulator, consultant and now within an industry. Formally a Director with the Australian Environment Business Network, John is currently the General Manager, Sustainability & Environment for Orora Ltd.  Orora, formally Amcor Australasia & Packaging Distribution, is a packaging company employing over 5,000 people across over 60 sites in Australia and New Zealand.  In this role John drives the development of sustainability strategies and coordinates the implementation of Orora’s sustainability programs.


Frederic Papon
Director, Climate Change and Sustainability Services, Ernst & Young

Frederic is a Director with Ernst & Young’s Climate Change and Sustainability Services team in Melbourne. He has more than 12 years experience in providing climate change and sustainability strategy advice and assurance to some of Australia's largest private sector companies, as well as assisting Government in policy development. Through his experience, he has assisted companies with the development and testing of methodologies to assess and report on resource efficiency and scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions associated with supply chain. Frederic joined the EY Australian team after having been involved in the development of the EY Climate Change and Sustainability team in France. He has worked on large scale projects in the carbon market relating to the European Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) and the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).


Rupert Posner
CEO, Good Environmental Choice Australia

Rupert joined GECA in October 2012 and in that time has helped deliver a transformation of Australia’s only independent, not-for-profit, multi-sector ecolabel. Rupert ensures that GECA runs credibly and efficiently and he maintains and develops relationships with prominent stakeholders, governments and the media to guarantee that the organisation remains the most influential ecolabelling body in Australia. Rupert comes to GECA after seven and a half years with The Climate Group, where he established and led the Australian office of the organisation before moving to New York to run Climate Week NYC and The Climate Group’s global energy program. He has achieved substantial national policy changes such as to voluntary carbon offsets to ensure no double counting and changes to the RET which supported solar PV and which led to 1 million roofs being installed across the country. Among other things, Rupert also came up with the idea and made the introductions for the Australian Football League to become carbon neutral. He is a true advocate of sustainable solutions that are economically feasible and profitable.



Carl Obst
Honorary Research Fellow and Associate, Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute & Consultant on Natural Capital Accounting

From 2010 to 2013 Carl lead the drafting and preparation of the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA). The SEEA is an international statistical standard covering all aspects of environmental-economic accounting at the national level and encompasses significant advances in describing ecosystem accounting. Carl is now a consultant in this area of work at international, national and corporate levels, and is a member of a range of working groups seeking to establish further guidance and protocols for natural capital accounting. He is based at the Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute of the University of Melbourne. Carl's background for this work is a 17 year career with the Australian Bureau of Statistics, with experiences across a range of topics within economic statistics most prominently national accounts. Carl held executive roles as head of the ABS National Accounts Branch from 2003 to 2008, and as Regional Director of the Victorian ABS Office from 2008 to 2010. He also worked for 3 years with the OECD in Paris on economic data and sustainable development indicators.
