In the 80s, pop star and impresario Steve Strange was the toast of new romantic London. Now, he's better known as a convicted shoplifter and former heroin addict. He tells Simon Hattenstone how he lost everything - even himself

He's looking well at the moment and is really hoping to get back into the public eye again!!
He has been very active recently with appearnces on tv in the UK as well as on radio. There is hope of getting him on to Bowie Net as a chat guest - stay tuned.

Boy George has released a song in honor of Steve Strange. It's on his new album that isn't being released into stores, 'The Unrecoupable One Man Bandit (volume one)' on his vanity label, "Back Door Records" (BDCD01). [The Boy put together this disc as a collection of songs that he's written but hasn't finished into a final, polished, ready-for-major-label-release format; it's meant for his core fans only, and is available through mail order only.]
"Mr. Strange is about an age-old ridiculous rivalry between myself and Steve Strange, one time club host and singer with 80s combo Visage. I was bitterly jealous that he had a hit record before me but of course I got over it. Hence the line, 'Forgive the hateful things I say and do.' It was one of the songs intended for the follow-up to 'Cheapness [& Beauty]' which I abandoned after parting company with Virgin in 1995."

Fade to Grey
The iciest and most authentically Eurodisco new wave song ever. Frontman Steve Strange becomes the icon of the New Romantics, the short-lived English movement (see also Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran) that worshiped Kraftwerk's robo-beats and mannequin cool. With its absurdly European minor-key melody, melancholic male vocal, and metronomic rhythms, "Fade to Grey" epitomizes the kind of record rock critics hate-until the Pet Shop Boys.
A resource for New Wave music and genres it encompasses.
