Hari Poologasundram has been appointed CEO SMEC and CEO International, Surbana Jurong Group. Hari has been an integral member of SMEC’s leadership team for more than 20 years and is well placed to lead SMEC during this time of business wide transformation. |

Driving Growth in Sri Lanka
SMEC’s parent company, Surbana Jurong, has signed an MOU with Ceywater Consultants (Pvt) Limited, a dominant water and waste water works consultancy company in Sri Lanka. The aim of the MOU is to drive growth and development in Sri Lanka through sustainable infrastructure development and management solutions. |

Surbana Jurong Signs MOC with City of Townsville
Under the Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC), Surbana Jurong will collaborate with the City of Townsville on economic, community and social innovation focused initiatives, including providing consultancy on the digitisation of Townsville and growing aviation links to Singapore. |

SMEC’s Sustainability Report 2017 is now available. This is our eighth annual Sustainability Report and outlines our progress towards our sustainability objectives in three categories: People; Community; and Sustainability and Environment. |

Evaluating Power Development Schemes in India
SMEC will undertake compliance-based evaluation as part of India’s Ministry of Power Integrated Power Development Schemes. The Schemes aim to address the gaps in sub-transmission and distribution networks across five states in India. |

Freight Route Upgrade in South Australia
SMEC’s sister company, Robert Bird Group, has been engaged as engineering designer on the Regional Bridge and Lobethal Freight Route Upgrade in Adelaide, South Australia. This is the first major transport design project undertaken by the practice as Lead Designer. |

Skills Transfer in South Africa
SMEC is providing engineering services related to the Development of Rural Roads Asset Management in South Africa. As part of the role, SMEC will upskill a local emerging consulting engineering firm. This skills transfer initiative will be aimed primarily at graduate engineers who will shadow SMEC employees throughout the project. |

Continued Success in the Americas
SMEC is developing Maintenance Plans and Work Instructions for mobile and fixed equipment at an
underground zinc mine complex, located in the south-eastern region of the United States. In Chile, one of the largest copper producing companies in the world has engaged SMEC in a 12-month service level agreement. |

Alleviating Traffic Congestion in the Philippines
The North-South Commuter Railway is a 38km long commuter railway line that connects Malolos in the Province of Bulacan to Tutuban in Manila. SMEC, as part of a joint venture will manage and supervise the construction of the project. |

Award Success at COLA, Singapore
Surbana Jurong received two Merit Awards at the inaugural Cities of Love Award in Singapore, which recognise the sustainability efforts of individuals, businesses and communities. BCA SkyLab and National University of Singapore School of Design and Environment Block 4 secured the awards under the environment category. |

MeyGen Tidal Turbine wins IStructE Structural Award
MeyGen Tidal Turbine, located off the north coast of Scotland, recently won the ‘Structures in Extreme Conditions’ category of the IStructE Structural Awards. Robert Bird Group designed the Turbine Support Structures for the first stage of the planned 398MW MeyGen tidal turbine farm, the first project of its kind anywhere in the world. |
