Measurements of the abdomen depend on the measurement of the abdominal circumference (AC). Some machines make this measurement partly automated but it is possible to derive an AC measurement from two diameters measured at right angles to one another.
We have to assume that the cross-section of the stomach is round because we shall be using a mathematical equation to calculate the circumference.
Don’t worry - the equation is simple.
The circumference is equal to πD - where D is the average diameter, and π is the mathematical constant of the ratio of circumference to diameter.
